Those "in the know" tell us that 50% of small businesses don't have an active website. From my experience, I believe that percentage to be fairly accurate.
But what about "home-based" businesses? While I don't the stats to prove it, I believe the percentage to be much higher. Many one- or two-person businesses operating out of a home office simply think they are too small to need a website. They are often depending on a Facebook page or a Twitter account to keep themselves "out there" for current and future clients or customers. So the question is very simple - does a home-based business really need a website? I believe the answer in a word is YES. Every business needs a website. We are very fortunate in our modern world that we can start a home-based business without a lot of costs. Just imagine the expenses if every email we send had to be mailed through the postal service. But there are some expenses that we need to be prepared for, and one of them is a monthly charge for hosting and a content management system for a website for our business. Just imagine - your small, home-based business can look just as good on the web as a large, multi-locations business. And the cost is not very much.
