Twelve new "technologies to watch" will change the face of higher education in the next five years, according to new research.
The 2015 Technology Outlook report, from Open Universities Australia and the not-for-profit New Media Consortium, says that big data, augmented reality, wearable devices and cloud-based apps are among the revolutionary developments that universities are expected to adopt.
The 12 new technologies are divided into those with immediate application, those two to three years away, and those four to five years away.

The top 12 list was compiled by a panel of 38 higher education specialists and the findings were discussed recently at a roundtable in Melbourne.
